Meet Sarah Markel, Vice-President of Production

What is your background?

My background is in healthcare, but I went back to school for a degree in Arts & Technology with a focus on 3D Animation & Rigging. I’ve done a little bit of everything in my career, from retail to emergency medicine. I also served in the Army for 4 years as a Licensed Nurse.

I started as a contract motion graphics artist at RocketBrand, but quickly realized that my strengths lie in the planning, management, and organization of teams and projects. My current role is overseeing the production of every single project at RocketBrand.

What drew you to a career in marketing and advertising?

After working in healthcare for a number of years, I realized that I wanted to do something that allowed me to express a more creative side of myself. Through the course of my studies in animation, I tried to emulate the things I liked about certain ads I saw, and any time I had free reign to choose a deliverable for a project, I’d choose to create an advertisement. The thought eventually occurred to me that I could be the one making those ads professionally!

What is your favorite part about working at RocketBrand?

The passion of my team members, definitely. I’m surrounded by a very talented and creative bunch, and everyone here really loves what they do. The passion is infectious!

What do you do outside of work?

If I’m not snuggling with my fur babies (I have four – three dogs and a cat), I’m reading, drawing, painting, woodworking, gardening, or playing video games.

What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on?

When I was a teenager I went to the Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan with my aunt and my youngest brother. Beautiful place and wonderful company.

Whats your guilty pleasure movie or show?

I watch a lot more animated children’s films than any adult should… and no, I don’t have kids. Here’s a list of my favorites, in no particular order:

Up
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Coraline
The Iron Giant
Lilo & Stitch
Any and all Miyazaki films
Both Incredibles Films

And I’m SO EXCITED about seeing Into The Spiderverse this weekend!!!

Best Dallas BBQ?

I’ll probably lose my Texan Card for saying this, but I’m not a fan of BBQ.

What music are you currently listening to?

Currently I’m on a Florence + the Machine kick, but I’ll listen to anything with the exception of country music.

What inspires you?

I’m inspired by my team and by the seriously awesome things we can create together!

What advice would you give someone looking to get into Marketing and Advertising?

Learn to love criticism and feedback. You can’t improve without it.
